Poisonous Gas and Broken Glass

Friday, July 24, 2009

This could be a really long post, but I will try to keep it short for your sake.

I could sum the first part up in two words.

Get one.

Maybe I should add another word.

Now!

(If you have gas appliances and don't have one already, that is.)

Okay, I will say more. This is how one of my days went last week.

Carbon monoxide alarm started beeping.

Freaked out.

Opened windows.

Called Tom.

Called Gas Company.

Bearded man showed up.

Bearded man looked around for 30 minutes and said his machine must be broken.

Bearded man called supervisor to come with new machine.

Called Tom.

Supervisor showed up.

Supervisor and Bearded man (from now on to be referred to as "gas people") looked around for an hour.

Supervisor came inside and said, "This is really bad."

Machine not broken, carbon monoxide levels really that high.

Gas people turned off hazardous water heater.

Called Tom.

Tom called the water heater people.

Tom came home.

Water heater people came and put in new water heater.

The End.

Seriously though, it was scary. Thank goodness we had that alarm and I was able to air out the house and keep us safe. The gas people said that if they get a reading of 100, they are concerned. The reading by our water heater, in the garage, was 4400. They said they never see it that high.

Again, we were never in danger because of that alarm (the reading inside was only at a 1 since I had opened up all of the windows).

Get one.

One funny thing though... when the alarm first went off I thought it was a smoke alarm. Logan did too and the first thing he did was run downstairs and get a dish towel from the kitchen. Then he brought it back upstairs and started swinging it around to get the alarm to turn off.

He has seen me do that a few times to the smoke alarm in the kitchen.

Now on to the broken glass.

Never use a baseball bat (even one that you think is soft) for a fly swatter.

Logan learned that the hard way.

You bet that I hunted that fly down. It just cost me $300.

I will definitely buy one. I've been meaning to.

That is funny about the window! OK, not THAT funny, kinda sad actually.

We have two... ever since I watched a 20/20 episode about 10 years ago on carbon monoxide poisoning that I do not even want to remember.
