Perfect Day

Today was a perfect day. We didn’t do anything extra special or anything. It was quite ordinary for “normal” people, but for me it was perfect.
It started with Tom waking up with Logan at 8:00 am. Tom tried to let me sleep in, but I couldn’t go back to sleep. We just hung out all morning, Tom and Logan watching cartoons and me working on the computer. We finally broke down and bought an external hard drive since I recently lost 3 months of Logan’s life (all of the pictures from 13-16 months, which was probably hundreds). I spent a lot of the morning moving pictures from CD’s to the new hard drive.
Finally around 10:00 we started getting ready for the day. I had convinced Tom that instead of painting all day we should take Logan swimming. Logan had not been swimming since he was about a year so I was interested to see how he would do. If the recent bathing experiences (of him clinging to me when I put him in the water) said anything than this was going to be an interesting experience.
I was pleasantly surprised. We went into the little kid pool first. Logan thought it was pretty cool, but apparently also thought it was a little childish for him. He wanted to go in the big pool. So off to the big pool we went. At first he was clinging to us with everything that he had, but once we showed him that he would float (he was wearing a life vest) he got brave. He preferred it when we weren’t holding on to him at all. I was so proud of him because I thought that he was going to freak out. He had such a blast though. I can’t believe what a big boy he is becoming. He would watch the older kids swim by him and try to copy them by moving his arms and kicking his legs.
He got upset when we left. We stayed the whole time open swim was available, but he wanted more. I thought that he would fall asleep after a couple minutes in the car (I am always so tired after swimming), but he held on until right before we got home 30 minutes later. We actually had to drive around the block a couple times just to make sure that he was really asleep enough to be able to move him.
The rest of the day was spent not doing much at all. We fed Logan dinner and played and just vegged. It doesn’t sound exciting, I know, but it has been so long since we have been able to spend the day together as a family just playing and laughing.
Once Logan went to bed Tom and I got to work painting all the trim in our bedroom, closet and bathroom. I don’t think Tom realized how long that would take (he never does) because it is now 2:30 am and I am sitting here writing this while I wait for the trim to dry so we can start on the third (yes, I said third) and final coat. I think we have another 2 hours left.
That was my perfect day.

Sounds delicious! I love perfect days. Are you painting because you are preparing to sell the house?
Betsy I needed this post - we're painting the whole house and this is good to prepare me mentally. :)
