Hawaii - Day Five

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

Our final day. I wish we could have stayed longer, but really it was a miracle that Tom was able to take off this much time the way work has been for him lately. We did take the red eye flight home though, so we could have all day to play. Little did we know that it was going to be a cloudy rainy day again.

This fist picture I am going to show you is one Tom insisted on taking.

Whenever Tom looks at this picture I am sure he will think of the noisy rooster at our hotel. We both wondered why there were so many running around at the hotel, but we soon learned that roosters and chickens are wild animals here on Kauai... and they are EVERYWHERE!

After taking a picture of the rooster we headed up to Waimea Canyon.

We had heard about it from a few people and decided to check it out. It was a pretty long drive off of the main road and I was tempted to ask Tom to turn around a few times. We finally made it though and it actually stopped raining long enough to take some pictures. Unfortunately though, the clouds were still there. We didn't get much of a view of the canyon, as you can see.

The main road on Kauai is kind of in a U shape. There is part of the island (that we saw the day before on our sailing adventure) that you can't get to by road. Waimea Canyon is up on the left side of the U. We wanted to head over to the right top part of the U and therefore we had to drive all the way around the island. Luckily the Island is not that big though and it only took a couple of hours. On the way back up the U we passed a sign for a waterfall. I love waterfalls and so we headed off the main road again... only to be disappointed. This is what we saw.

Not much. We did see this cool sign though.

After the waterfall adventure we hit the main road again and drove up to the north side of the island. It was very beautiful there, but also very rainy... so no pictures.

On the way back down to the airport later that day it stopped raining long enough for us to get some pictures at the beach.

You can't really see it in the picture below, but there is a rainbow and a couple of surfers.

This next picture is right after a big wave took Tom by surprise and soaked his shoes. I saw it coming and tried to warn him, but was too late. He got me back by chasing me down which ended in me falling backwards into the sand. We both were a little sandy and wet for the plane ride home.
