Piggy Bank

I am really proud of Logan. He handles money better than I do.

He started earning money, from us, a few months ago. (He has been potty trained for a while, but I was trying to get him to be more proactive about it, instead of me having to remind him every few hours. Quarters have seemed to help.)

After he earned his first five dollars, which seemed to take forever, I took him to our local toy store for some goodies. He picked out some bubbles and paid for them all by himself. He even had some money left for a candy bar.

On our next trip to the toy store, which we frequent often due to their fabulous game library, Logan saw some miniature animals that he wanted to buy. I told him that he could bring his money, next time and purchase them. After all, now that he earns his own money, he should have to start contributing, right?

Logan remembered his money when we went back to get a new game and we headed over to the animals.

We didn't get far.

Logan saw a ball that he had to have. It wasn't just any ball though. It was a ball that cost $34.99.

I explained to Logan that he didn't have enough money for the ball. That it cost a lot of money and he would have to save up for a really long time in order to buy it.

He said okay.

I wanted to make sure he understood, and stated again that it would take him a long time to save up that much money, and that he wouldn't be able to buy any toys that day.

He said okay.

I was skeptical. I didn't think he would last.

Every time we stopped by the toy store, Logan would visit his ball. Determined, still, to save up his money and buy it.

We would count his money a few times a week. Quarters were exchanged in for dollar bills... dollar bills for five dollar bills... last weekend he had $32.75 and I had a 20% off coupon.

After months of saving, the day had finally come. Logan was so excited. He exchanged any quarters that he had, at the Bank of Papa (Papa Skip loves quarters), headed to the toy store, and came home with this...

It is a pretty cool ball.

I think he is teaching me, more than I am teaching him.

NOW that is one COOL ball! I don't blame him for wanting to save up for it. The coolest part is because he did save up for it and got it and it is such an awesome thing he can see how rewarding it is to save up for something you really want to buy. Gosh he is such a smartie pants. Every time Rick sits and reads your blog with me he just says...Logan is going to be such a smart kid. And it's true he is :) Good job mom and dad! :)
